It has long been known by the "well-to-do" from the time of the Romans and earlier, that a sea
Nowadays the cruise lines offer luxurious accommodation and great food. They even supply the servants. The ships abound with health spas, tennis courts, swimming pools, exercise rooms and lawn bowling. Recreation coaches organize passengers in walking, jogging and skeet shooting. The sea air, exercise, sun and holiday atmosphere away from the job and stress all help to increase health and attitude. Some people, of course, choose a less healthy lifestyle by eating and drinking too much, then spending most of their time in the ships casinos.
Others would rather become more intimate with the sea. They like to sail in smaller boats where they are only a few feet above the water so they can feel the waves lift the boat and appreciate the sea life firsthand. When anchored they dive into the sea instead of a warm pool. Without air conditioning they enjoy the gentle warm breeze wafting over the cockpit while they salute “Father Neptune”. Barbecuing freshly caught fish that tastes better than any cooked at home. The servants are not missed.
Some just enjoy going to the lake or the seashore. They swim, make sand castles, picnic, kayak, row and explore. This is a short change of pace to relax them so they can face the grind next week.
Then there are those who live more or less full time aboard a boat. These people seem to be on vacation all year long. They enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle that is the envy of their friends and associates. These lucky souls are the main subject of this blog “Healthy Boating”, weather they are moored in a marina, anchored out or cruising the world.
These are a few ways to enjoy the sea and lakes in order to relax, recharge and to appreciate the world we live in. Even if we just are on a short vacation, we come back to our day-to-day life more able to face the pace of modern day living.
I invite anyone that has any thoughts on the health benefits of boating; especially living aboard, to comment on this blog.
